Top Seven Most Ridiculous On Again/Off Again Celebrity Couples

Celebrities are known as much for their crazy lifestyles as they are for their talents, and that is especially true when it comes to their relationships. Some movie stars stay in the public eye even when they haven’t made a film in years, simply by having an interesting love life!

One thing that celebrity relationships are notorious for is their on-again off-again antics. It can be hard to keep track even on a weekly basis. And a few of these couples have made their serial breakups/makeups into an art form.

Here’s my list of the Top Seven Most Ridiculous On Again/Off Again Celebrity Couples:

1. Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor

These two are the quintessential Hollywood couple who couldn’t decide if they loved or hated each other. Their epic romance spans decades and two—count them—TWO marriages. They met on the set of the film Cleopatra and began a scandalous affair when Burton was still married. After the couple had married they became notorious for their passionate fights and even more passionate make ups. Eventually they divorced and Liz went on to get married two more times—a total of seven marriages for the star. Long after their second divorce, Liz interviewed that she would always love Richard Burton.

2. Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal

After she divorced her first husband Ryan Philippe, Reese Witherspoon took up dating her co-star from the 2007 film Rendition. Since then, the two have been in the news almost every month. During April 2007 they were quoted as saying they were taking their relationship slow. In June 2008 they moved in together, but just a few months later in October 2008 their relationship hit a rough patch and celebrity news sources said they were on the verge of splitting. They tend to work on opposite coasts making it even harder to keep a steady relationship; but the public seems to be rooting for this couple, and they might actually make it!

3. Jessica Alba and Cash Warren

These two seem to be changing their minds every week—but it doesn’t stop them from getting pregnant, engaged and even married! Despite their breakup in July 2007, the two announced they were expecting a baby in December of that same year. And in May 2008, they got married in a private ceremony…but not before rumors in February that Jessica had once again dumped Cash. It makes you wonder if they are just doing it for the press!

4. Usher and Tameka Foster

The sexy hip hop star fell in love with his stylist Tameka Foster in 2007 despite the fact that she was nine years elder. Furthermore, Usher’s mother (and manager at the time) was publically opposed to the relationship and Usher’s fans voiced their dislike of his choice. The couple made it through the stress and strain and eventually and set a date to marry; but one week before the wedding it was called off. Speculations about family drama and arguments of the wedding were all over the place. Nevertheless, they eventually did marry in a small, private ceremony the following week; and two months later Tameka gave birth to the couple’s first son.

5. Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel

JT is the most recognizable name in pop music right now and he’s had a long line of beautiful ladies that include the crème de la crème of Hollywood elite. But he can’t seem to shake Jessica Biel. The two have had an on-again off-again relationship that has spanned almost two years with Biel joining him on his tour, and the two of them being photographed shopping for rings at one point. They broke up in the fall of 2007 but in April 2008 were seen together again holding hands. In September 2008 the rumor mills were reporting that marriage talk was back on the table. Will they ever settle down? Hard to say—but they both seem to taking their own sweet time to make their decision.

6. Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer

When Jennifer Aniston finally met John Mayer, her fans were overjoyed. Here, at last, seemed to be a ‘good guy’ that was worthy of Jen’s love. But after months of dating, the two broke up in August 2008 and everyone—including Aniston—seemed crushed. But the romance was on again just a few months later when they were seen out to dinner in October 2008, and again on a very public date in November. As America’s sweetheart it seems like everyone has a vested interest in seeing Jennifer Aniston happy with the right guy. But some people think John Mayer is too young (he’s 8 years younger) to settle down, and Aniston is made it clear that she wants to have a family.

7. Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson

The award for the most ridiculous on again off again couple goes to Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson. Both known for their larger-than-life personalities and careers, the two met and married after only 96 hours. Over the next three years the couple had two sons, filed for divorce twice and reconciled. But in 1998 they finally called it quits. Pamela Anderson went on to have several other relationships, and even told the press that she continued to have a physical relationship with Tommy Lee after their divorce. In June 2008—almost ten years later—the couple reunited again with Pamela and their sons moving back in with Tommy. No word on whether or not the pair will tie the knot again, but personally, I recommend they just play it by ear this time.
